Uganda Begins Testing New Ebola Vaccine Amid Outbreak

After the outbreak in Uganda, an experimental vaccine clinical trial against the Sudan strain was conducted against the Sudan strain, which claimed to have the life of a nurse in Kampala. The trial, launched four days after the first death, targets health workers and individuals exposed to the virus through a “ring” vaccination strategy, to confirm contact and its exposure to the release. Two other cases were identified among the nurse’s relatives, highlighting the urgency of containment measures. This marks the sixth Ebola outbreak in Uganda involving a Sudan strain, and there is no approved vaccine. His director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised the rapid launch of the trial, noting that the vaccine candidate system established during the 2022 outbreak paved the way for this rapid response . Ebola virus is transmitted through body fluids and causes symptoms including fever, vomiting, bleeding and diarrhea.
