Trump signs order banning transgender women from female sports

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that prevents trans women from participating in women’s sports.

The order provides guidance, regulations and legal interpretation and will invite the Ministry of Education to investigate high schools deemed non-compliant.

Republicans say this restores sporting equity, but LGBT advocacy and human rights groups describe the move as discriminatory.

The order came into effect immediately and largely covers high school, college and grassroots sports.

If you experience male adolescence, many athletic governing bodies, including swimming, track and field and golf, prohibit trans women from participating in the elite-level women category.

The latest order allowed the Education Department to investigate how schools implement IX Title IX, a U.S. law that prohibits sexual discrimination in federally funded educational programs, according to White House officials who told reporters Wednesday morning.

A administration official said the executive order would reverse the Biden administration, which said in April last year that LGBT students would be protected by federal law, although it did not provide specific guidance to trans athletes.

“If you let a man take over the women’s sports team or hack into the locker room, you’ll be investigated for violating Title IX and risking your federal funds,” Trump explained.

In addition, the White House plans to introduce sports institutions, such as the National University Track and Field Association (NCAA) – to come to the White House to meet with female athletes and their parents to discuss concerns.

Officials discussing the order said the United States will do everything possible to prevent trans athletes from competing with women in the International Olympic Committee competition held on U.S. soil.

President Trump stipulates that the order will include the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

White House officials call these policies a widespread American popularity and are essential to ensure “equal” and safety of women in sports.

Human Rights Campaign President Kelley Robinson said in a statement that the order “exposed to harassment and discrimination by young people, encouraging people to question the gender of narrowly children who do not match their should wear or look.”

“For so many students, sports is about finding a place to belong somewhere,” Ms. Robinson added. “It’s harder for them not partisan policies.”

According to a study by the UCLA Williams Institute, less than 1% of the U.S. population aged 13 and over are transgender, and the number of exercises is small.

On the first day of Trump’s office on January 20, he signed another separate order requiring the federal government to formally define sex as male or female.
