United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announces the establishment of the Advisory Committee
The United Nations supports the support mission in UNSMIL is glad to announce the establishment of a consulting committee, which is part of its multi -track political initiative announced to the Security Council on December 16, 2024.
The role of the consulting committee will be technically reasonable, political and feasible to solve outstanding disputes in order to achieve elections, with Libyan political agreement, LPDF roadmap and 6+6 elections (including Libyan political agreement) The existing framework and legal -based.
The consulting committee is composed of Libyan characters, and they are determined based on UNSMIL’s evaluation of their experience and abilities. UNSMIL took this opportunity to express his sincere thanks to the strong interest in the work of the committee.
The choice of members of the committee is based on the following standards: professional spirit; law, constitution, and/or election issues; the ability to compromise can be established; and understand the political challenges facing Libya. UNSMIL also considers cultural components, geography and gender balance.
The consulting committee is not a decision -making agency or dialogue forum. Sometimes it is expected to end its work in a short time. The proposal proposed by the consulting committee will be submitted to UNSMIL to consider the subsequent political process stage. UNSMIL will promote the interaction between committees and relevant agencies.
The establishment of the consulting committee is part of the United Nations supporting Libya to overcome the long -lasting political deadlock and division’s efforts in order to make progress in national elections as a means to update the legitimacy of Libya split institutions. The Libyan people interacted with UNSMIL every day pay close attention to the current political situation and urges the political process to re -start the political process. UNSMIL shares this evaluation. The Libyan people are aware that the current political department’s unity, sovereignty and stability have the destructive effects of its country.
While cooperating with the Consultation Committee, UNSMIL is preparing to promote Libya to work hard to solve economic reforms, unity of security and military institutions, and other long -term conflict -driven factors.
According to the second and fifth paragraphs of the resolution of the Security Council No. 2755 (2024), the political process developed based on the principle of maintaining stability, updating legality and promoting the unified principles of division institutions. Throughout the process, the United Nations will firmly defend the principles of transparentness, consensus and national ownership in order to safeguard Libya’s sovereignty and the interests of Libya people.
The consulting committee will hold the first meeting next week.
