Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso Officially Exit ECOWAS

Niamey, Bamako and Ouagadougou have officially withdrawn from the ECOWAS economy (ECOWAS), which marks the historic transformation of regional politics. Three countries led by politicians announced their departure for the first time a year ago because the group tried to return to democratic rule. Although it has been withdrawn, ECOWAS urges member states to continue to expand certain privileges, such as allowing free action under ECOWAS Passport. The regional group was established in 1975 and has been the cornerstone of West Africa’s economic and political cooperation. However, the three countries facing security and governance challenges are replaced by the alliance of Sahele, which is a security -centric partnership. It was established in September 2024. Their exit signal signals are increasing in geopolitics in West Africa. The potential meaning is stable in regional stability, economic cooperation and future diplomatic participation.
