WSL leaders Chelsea target unbeaten season after ‘perfect’ day
Chelsea were unbeaten in the WSL twice in 2017-18 and 2019-20, while Arsenal were also unbeaten in 2012-13.
The only English team in the modern era to not lose in all competitions was Arsenal in 2006-2007, when they won the Quadruple.
It’s an achievement Chelsea will hope to replicate, but Pompast was quick to mention that despite staying top of the WSL, they “haven’t won anything yet”.
“(Being unbeaten) is not what I’m thinking about right now. I’m very happy with the result. As you saw in the race, it was a really good margin,” she said.
“These shows are on the edge. It might go one way or another, but it’s going in our direction and I’m very happy with that.
“We’re just trying to take it one game at a time and make sure we make the right decisions and bring good results. We’re still a long way from winning something.”
There were celebrations among Chelsea’s players and staff, with Bompast revealing she had given them an extra day off after a “perfect” afternoon.
Fans also left Stamford Bridge excited after the club’s unveiling Women’s world record signing Naomi Gilma pregame.
“It’s been a perfect afternoon in terms of the news and the result. It’s great news for all Chelsea fans,” Bompast said.
“I would say (the win) is definitely huge in terms of the mental aspect, but you know we still have a lot of games to play.
“The Champions League is coming in March and we will have to play very important games. It will not be easy.
“If we keep the right mentality, if we get almost every player available, then yes, we’re in a good position – but you never know what can happen in football.”
