Naomi Girma: Chelsea sign USA defender for world record fee
Bay FC surpassed their previous record fee of £685,000 when they signed Racheal Kundananji in February last year.

Girma is Chelsea’s first signing of the January transfer window after competing for Lyon.
Chelsea have made themselves a priority target after losing defender Kadeisha Buchanan to a knee injury.

In 2023, Girma helped San Diego win the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Shield and was named U.S. Soccer’s Female Player of the Year.
She is part of the United States’ gold medal-winning team at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
