International Trade Centre (ITC) launches READY Salone project to train 3,000 Sierra Leonean youth for the digital economy

The young entrepreneurs in Cerra Leone will improve their digital skills by launching “Sierra Leine: Given the power through digital technology” (Prepare salon) By International Trade Center (ITC) project.

The Ready Salone project is funded by the Korean International Union Agency (KOICA) and implemented for four years. It aims to support young people, young entrepreneurs, business support organizations, technology centers, and policy makers to use the opportunities in the digital economy. The initiative attaches great importance to young women and disabled.

The main government officials including Hon. The launching ceremony was attended. Dr. David Monei Song, Chief Minister; Dear. The Ready Salone project has four intervention measures: improving the digital literacy of young people; improving the competitiveness of entrepreneurship through skills; strengthening business support services focusing on technology; formulating tolerant national digital strategies.

Through this project, 3,000 young people and 250 small and medium -sized enterprises will get digital skills and business opportunities. In addition, a publicity activity will cover 10,000 young people to promote the benefits of digital education, occupations and entrepreneurship. Sierra Leone will participate in motivating girls and young women to seek opportunities in the digital economy.

The Youth Affairs Department and the Ministry of Communications, Technology and Innovation are the main government partners of Ready Salone.

After the ITC executive director, Ms. Coke-Hamilton signed a memorandum of understanding; Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, Dr. Hon. David Mona Mori; 100 young people including Mr. Baik Ki-Hyun, deputy state director of Koica Nigeria participated in Ready Salone Project slogan competition.

On the second day of the project, representatives of financial institutions and the stakeholders of the technology and youth ecosystem discussed the way to promote the women’s inclusive finance and discussed the steps of launching the Youth Employment Skills Fund (Skye) for the Srallion youth.
