Tributes paid to woman who died after Plymouth attack
Tributes have been paid to a woman who died after a serious attack in Plymouth.
Claire Butler was pronounced dead in the early hours of Thursday morning after she was found injured on West Hoe Road just before 21:00 GMT on Wednesday.
Her family paid tribute to her, describing her as “a vibrant and beautiful soul, a person who cared about everyone”.
Devon and Cornwall Police arrested 53-year-old Paul Antony Butler on suspicion of murder Thursday.
A large police cordon was set up in the area and a massive search was carried out on Thursday involving dozens of officers.
The cordon was lifted on Friday and officers were deployed to Marshmills, with police confirming it was “part of an ongoing Plymouth murder investigation”.
Ms Butler is in her forties and a lecturer at Plymouth University.
Hundreds of comments from her past and present students flooded social media.
