Axel Rudakubana has stopped participating in mental health services, an Alder Hey spokesman said

Southport murderer Axel Rudakubana received care from NHS mental health services for around four years before he “ceased involvement”, a hospital trust has said.

Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust confirmed he had been in the care of the agency between 2019 and 2023.

Rudakubana, who was 17 at the time of the attack, was found guilty of the “torture” murders of three young girls – Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, Bebe King, six, and Alice Darling, nine. Silva Aguiar) was sentenced to 52 years in prison.

A spokesman for Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust said the trust “welcomes an independent public inquiry into the failure to identify the risk posed by the teenager”.

The statement added that Rudakubana, from West Banks, Lancashire, had stopped using the service in February 2023, although support had continued.

The spokesman added: “We are fully engaged in a review of child protection practice commissioned by the Child Protection Partnership following the horrific events last July to determine whether any lessons can be learned.”

The trust said it would “welcome the announcement of an independent public inquiry and will fully co-operate and support this process”.

They added: “We are unable to provide any further details that may affect the investigation and will not be commenting further at this time.”

The trust said its thoughts were with the families of Alice, Bebe and Elsie and everyone affected by the events of July 29.

Thursday, Rudakubana Sentenced to at least 52 years in prison Convicted of three counts of murder, 10 counts of attempted murder, one count of producing the biotoxin ricin and one count of possessing an Al Qaeda training manual, an offense under the Terrorism Act.

The murderer came to school with a knife

Axel Rudakubana was first referred to mental health services in Alder Hey after being knifed at Range High School in Formby, later saying he did so “for Use it”.

He was also referred to the counter-extremism program Prevent because he had been researching a school massacre on a computer at his next school, Acorns.

There were two other referrals to Prevent, but neither progressed because there was no clear ideology behind Ruda Kubana’s obsession with violence.

Lancashire Police also had multiple interactions with Ruda Kubana, including one in March 2022 when he was found armed with a knife on a bus.

His mother was also warned to keep knives in the house safe.

An investigation into the Southport killings has also been launched Supported by families of three men killed in ReadingBerkshire.

The three men were stabbed to death by Khairi Saadallah in Forbury Gardens, Reading, in June 2020.

The families of James Furlong, David Wells and Joe Rich-Bennett say they fear lessons have not been learned and are demanding more action.

Both Sa’adalla and Ruda Kubana were referred to the government’s Counter-Extremism Prevention Program.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said the inquiry would be given all the powers needed to assess whether red flags had been missed.

The BBC has contacted the Home Office and Department of Health and Social Care for comment.
