Kenya Targets First-world Status with Manufacturing and Agricultural Reforms

Kenya’s Kwanza government, led by President William Ruto, plans to use manufacturing and agriculture to transform the country’s economy and achieve first-world status, Kenya’s Vice President Kisur Kindiki has revealed. In his speech, Kindiki emphasized that the Ruto-led government has made significant investments in value chains that are critical to the Kenyan economy and the livelihoods of most Kenyans, including mining, agriculture, livestock and fisheries. He cited recent milestones such as the first bonus payments to sugarcane farmers in Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma and Siaya counties as evidence of progress. Kindiki also outlined broader government initiatives aimed at stabilizing the macroeconomy, boosting manufacturing, strengthening housing programs and creating jobs. He is confident in the government’s trajectory to deliver on its 2022 election promises. By leveraging these strategic sectors, the government aims to propel Kenya from a third world economy to a first world economy in record time.
