ICC chair Jay Shah joins new MCC global advisory board as world cricket committee scrapped
International Cricket Council president Jay Shah has joined Marylebone Cricket Club’s new global advisory board, which will replace its World Cricket Council.
The committee grew out of the World Cricket Connects forum organized by the MCC at Lord’s in 2024, when 120 of the sport’s leading figures came together to discuss the sport.
The MCC said it hopes the board meeting, which will be held virtually, will become a “leading seminar” for the sport “to ensure cricket’s future success”.
Indian Shah, 36, will become the youngest-ever president of the ICC when he succeeds New Zealander Greg Barclay in December 2024.
He is the former secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and one of the most powerful figures in world cricket.
The advisory board will be chaired by former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, who served as president of MCC from October 2019 to September 2021, the first non-British person to hold the position.
Former national team captains Sir Andrew Strauss and Graeme Smith and current England women’s captain Heather Knight have also accepted invitations to join the advisory board.
MCC President Mark Nicholas said: “We have assembled an impressive group of cricket’s best talents across a number of different areas relevant to our sport.
“I am delighted to be working with this experienced team and excited about what we can achieve together for the benefit of global gaming.”
The MCC is headquartered at Lord’s, which it owns, and acts as the custodian and arbiter of the laws and ethos of cricket.
