Everything Announced at Xbox Developer Direct Showcase – January 2025
January may be coming to an end, but Microsoft is making some noise for 2025 with Xbox developer face-to-face sessions and surprising announcements. Ninja Gaiden 4 and previews of upcoming Doomsday: Dark Ages.
The Xbox Developer Direct took place on Thursday, showcasing extended gameplay footage and developer insights for four Xbox Studios games: Doom: Dark Ages, South of Midnight, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Ninja Gaiden 4″.
Microsoft needs to bring some excitement to its games as Sony continues to pull ahead of it in console and software sales and Nintendo has officially announced its biggest news of the year switch 2. It looks like it worked, as hype for the new Doom and Ninja Gaiden games was at its peak right after the event.

What games were showcased at Xbox Developer Direct?
The first major release was the much-teased mystery game Ninja Gaiden 4. Team Ninja has teamed up with Bayonetta and NieR: Automata developer Platinum Games to revive the dormant series. The new game features new ninja hero Yakumo, and the developers say it will feature the rigorous difficulty the series is known for, but new players will still find it approachable. In addition to news of the next game in the series coming later this year, Team Ninja also announced a remaster of 2008’s Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. Xbox Game Pass.
South of Midnight from Compulsion Games is a stylish action-adventure game set in a fictional town in the American South. Players control Hazel, who uses her weaving powers to remove spiritual corruption and transform natural creatures into disgusting monsters. “South of Midnight” will be released on April 8.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a stylish role-playing game from Sandfall Interactive. Although the game is turn-based, characters are still active in combat, with the ability to dodge, combo, and parry. “Expedition 33” will be released on April 24.
The last installment of the series is Doom: Dark Ages. The new game in the iconic series is a prequel to 2016’s Doom reboot, switching gameplay from fast jumping and sprinting to slower combat with new mechanics. The Doomslayer will fight hordes of demons, but he’ll gain access to new tools including a shield saw, new melee weapons, a cybernetic dragon, and a giant mech, just to name a few.
