David Nucifora: Scottish Rugby’s performance director set for role with British and Irish Lions

Scotland Rugby’s director of performances David Nucifora will play a shocking role in the British and Irish Lions’ upcoming tour of their native Australia.

Nusifola worked closely with Lions coach Andy Farrell during his ten years with Ireland, winning four men’s Six Nations titles during that time.

He left Ireland Rugby at the end of the 2023-2024 season before joining the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) in August last year.

It is understood Nusifola will take on a similar performance role at the Lions and will join Farrell’s team on loan from SRU.

His knowledge of Australian rugby, as well as his own country’s rugby, is considered a key asset as the Lions look to win a Test series for the first time in 12 years.

After winning the Rugby World Cup with the Wallabies in 1991, Nusifola coached the ACT Brumbies to great success in the 2000s and has been general manager of the high-performance division of the Australian Rugby League since 2009.

Farrell is yet to formally confirm any of his coaching appointments, although fitness guru Aled Walters, who joined Ireland from England this summer, will almost certainly be involved.
