Chinese Ambassador Wang Xuekun and Minister of Finance and Economic Planning of Rwanda Murangwa Sign Agreement on China-Rwanda Economic and Technical Cooperation and Framework Agreement on the Giseke Irrigation Project
On January 22, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda Wang Xuekun met with the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning of Rwanda. Murangwa signed the “China-Rwanda Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement” and the “Gisek Irrigation Project Framework Agreement” on behalf of the two governments in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. James Kimonyo, Ambassador of Rwanda to China, attended the signing ceremony; officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources of Rwanda, and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda Gao Zhiqiang.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Wang said that the signing of the agreement ohChina-Rwanda economic and technological cooperation fully reflects the high degree of political mutual trust and traditional friendship between the two governments. He emphasized that this is a specific measure to implement the “Ten Partnership Action Plan” for China-Africa cooperation proposed by President Xi Jinping, and it is also the latest result of the important consensus reached by the two heads of state.
Ambassador Wang emphasized that the Giseke Irrigation Project is supported by preferential loans from the Chinese government.It is of great significance to Rwanda’s agricultural modernization and improvement of agricultural production capacity. Ambassador Wang reiterated that China is committed to deepening practical cooperation with Rwanda in various fields, promoting mutual benefit, win-win results, and common development, so as to bring greater benefits to the people of the two countries.
On behalf of the Rwandan government, Minister Munyakazi expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chinese government for its firm support and assistance to Rwanda over the years. He said that the Gisek Irrigation Project will promote agricultural development in Rwanda and help address climate change and food security challenges. He further emphasized that Rwanda attaches great importance to the comprehensive strategic partnership between Rwanda and China and is willing to continue to deepen bilateral cooperation with China.
