Aaron Glenn: New York Jets appoint former player as new head coach

The New York Jets named former player Aaron Glenn as the team’s new head coach.

The 52-year-old has transformed the Detroit Lions’ defense over the past four years as their defensive coordinator, spending eight seasons with the Jets from 1994 to 2001.

After his playing career ended in 2010, Glenn rejoined the Jets as a scout for two seasons before moving into coaching.

“Aaron has earned this opportunity with nearly three decades of NFL experience, 10 of which were with us as a player and scout,” Jets president Robert Wood Johnson said.

“He brings exceptional leadership skills and the vision this organization needs to succeed. I am excited to see him lead this team.”

Glenn played with the Lions, New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns, but never as a head coach.

“This place is special to me,” Glenn said.

“From the time I was drafted and trained on Long Island to my return to New Jersey as a scout, this organization has always felt like home to me.”

Glenn succeeds Robert Saleh, who becomes owner Johnson’s first coach during his 25-year tenure Fired by the Jets in October.

The Jets last qualified for the playoffs in 2010.
