Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou says players are ‘giving everything’
Tottenham Hotspur manager Angie Postkoglu said his players “give their all in every game” and have a “fantastic opportunity” to enjoy a successful season.
Spurs have won just one of their last 10 Premier League games and are winless in their last six.
Sunday’s Lost to Everton 3-2 It was their third successive title and they sit 15th in the table, raising questions over whether Postkoglu is the right man to lead the club forward.
Despite their poor performance in the league, Tottenham Hotspur are still active in three other competitions – the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup and the Europa League.
“We are still in three cup competitions and we have a great opportunity in the next few months,” Postkoglu said.
“The players are giving everything in every game. The players are not prioritizing anything – they are trying their best.”
Tottenham have lost 12 games in the Premier League this season, the sixth time in their first 22 league games since 1997-98 (also 12 defeats) the first time.
Spurs’ best chance of winning trophy may lie in Carabao Cup after winning in semi-final first leg 1-0 Liverpool at home.
They travel to Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup and currently sit ninth in the Europa League table, just one place away from automatic promotion to the last 16, but they still have two games to play.
Postkoglu believes injuries are the main reason for Tottenham’s woes, with just 13 fit senior players available for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Hoffenheim (17:45 GMT ).
Postkoglu added: “You really need a very strong squad to play in Europe and do well in cup competitions because when you play three games a week it’s uncontrollable.”
“The reality is we don’t have a lot of options (because of injuries). You’re always evaluating why something happened.
“Early on in the year, some injuries were recurring, so we’re trying to improve that process. Lately it’s been the accumulation of schedules and losses.”
