Detroit- star Chairman John Elkann detailed several of the transatlantic automaker’s upcoming U.S. investments during a meeting with the president Donald Trump On a previous one-day trip to Washington, D.C. Trump’s inauguration monday.
As outlined in an internal message to U.S. employees on Wednesday, the plans include creating 1,500 jobs and reopening a factory in Illinois to build a new midsize pickup truck in 2027; building a new version of the Dodge Durango SUV considering mexico to the Detroit plant; and provide additional support to plants in Toledo, Ohio, and Kokomo, Indiana.

Some announcements, such as the establishment of midsize pickup truck in illinoispreviously expected to be under a contract with the United Auto Workers union. However, they have been questioned over strategic decisions made by former Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares.
UAW President Shawn Fain Campaign to fire Tavareswelcomed the announced plans. The union has previously lodged grievances over layoffs and potential changes to the company’s production plans and held anti-Strantis rallies.
“This victory is a testament to the power of workers coming together and holding a multi-billion dollar company accountable. We have shown we will do whatever it takes to protect good union jobs in Belvedere, Detroit, Co. Como and beyond,” Fein said in a statement Wednesday.

Elkann, a scion of Fiat founder Italy’s Agnelli family, is overseeing the automaker as it searches for a new CEO after Tavares steps down. Left suddenly in December Amid falling profits, declining market share and disagreements with the company’s board of directors.
Plans for Stellantis’ Ohio-based Jeep complex include “more technology and powerful product actions for the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator” as well as “more critical components” for supporting facilities.
According to the memo, Indiana’s investment includes production of new four-cylinder engines.
“Our plan is focused on growing market share and growing sales, requiring billions of dollars of investment in our people, quality products and innovative technology, all in the United States,” Filosa said.
Reuters Tuesday report Elkann met with Trump and several senior administration officials ahead of Trump’s inauguration, to which Elkann was invited but did not attend.
Elkann also serves as chairman ferrariAccording to Reuters, he flew back to Italy before the inauguration to meet seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, the new Ferrari Formula One driver.
Elkann is at least the second leader of one of Detroit’s “Big Three” automakers to meet or speak with Trump. Ford Motor Company Chairman Bill Ford said earlier this month that he had a lengthy phone call with the then-president-elect.
“We had a long, long conversation,” Ford said on January 9. During the event for the Detroit Auto Show. “He called me out of the blue and we had a great conversation. He understands our industry and the importance of Ford in the industry. He wants to help. I think once he gets his staff together, we’ll probably Can go a little deeper.”
General Motors There was no immediate response to whether CEO and Chairman Mary Barra had met or spoken with Trump recently.
