Six Nations 2025: Warren Gatland says “write Wales off at your peril”
Gatland said he aimed to ignore external criticism.
“It’s about creating some positivity,” Gatland said.
“It was almost like creating a siege mentality and realizing there was a lot of negativity and criticism out there about myself, the coaches and the players.
“We need to rebuild that confidence and create that confidence. It’s about unity and working hard as a team.
“The message is to try to counteract that negativity and not let social media influence external discourse too much.
“Sometimes it creates a bond within the team and brings some positive momentum to the tournament.”
Gatland says patience is needed as Wales prepares for the 2027 World Cup.
“We have said we are on track to achieve our 2027 target,” Gatland said.
“When you lose so much experience and now have young people, it’s going to take some time.
“We’re trying to build a young team.
“For this game we have guys like Tolupe Faletto, Josh Adams and Dav Jenkins coming back who will make a big difference for us.
“It’s the year of the British and Irish Lions so that’s exciting for the players.”
