Meta Reportedly Developing Oakley Smart Glasses For Athletes
Meta is reportedly preparing to launch an Oakley smart glasses as soon as later this year. According to a new Bloomberg reportsMeta plans to expand its lineup of AI-powered glasses beyond its existing partnership with Ray-Ban. The report states that the new glasses will be based on Oakley’s Sphaera model, which is designed for athletes such as runners and cyclists, and will feature a camera closer to the center of the frame for improved capture.
Representatives for Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Oakley is part of Luxottica, which also owns a portfolio of high-end fashion eyewear brands including Ray-Ban, suggesting Meta can further expand its smart eyewear offerings to more brands in the future.
These efforts are aimed at Strengthen Meta’s position in the AI ​​fieldand augmented reality and virtual reality, where the company has invested heavily over the years despite lagging consumer adoption.
Like Meta’s Ray-Ban series of smart glasses, the Oakley version is expected to offer similar features. Includes artificial intelligence tools and the ability to take photos and videos and interact with them via voice commands. However, the report states that this model will not include a display.
Meanwhile, Meta is reportedly developing a more advanced version of its smart glasses, codenamed “Hypernova,” which will feature a built-in display for notifications from smart assistants. The report also states that Meta is considering launching new wearable devices, including watches and earbuds with built-in cameras that can analyze the surrounding environment in real time.
Both products will be part of a broader push to more deeply integrate artificial intelligence into consumer devices and better compete with the Apple Watch and AirPods. Bloomberg also reports that Apple has explored adding cameras to its own headphones.
