Jonas vs Price: Olympic history-maker Cindy Ngamba to turn professional in boxing

Ngamba is unable to return to Cameroon because of his sexual orientation – a country where homosexuality is punishable by up to five years in prison.

However, after 15 years in the UK, she is still trying to secure a visa and British citizenship.

She was on the verge of deportation five years ago after taking part in what she thought was a routine signing process to let authorities know she was still in the country.

Ngamba was arrested along with her brother Kennett and sent from Manchester to a detention camp in London before being released the next day.

Ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, British Boxing tried unsuccessfully to have Ngamba included in the Olympic program, even writing to the Home Office asking to grant her British citizenship.

But then she won a scholarship to the International Olympic Committee’s Refugee Team and became the first female boxer to represent the team at the Olympics.

In 2018, the 20-year-old Ngamba made his debut in the amateur league and achieved a record of 26 wins and only 5 losses.

During this time she won the British National Championship three times.
