County Antrim Shield final: Glens secure Shield with shootout win over Larne
Glentoran had the better of things in the first half with Larne trio Chris Gallagher, Mark Randall and Levi Ives all dismissed for serious challenges by referee Steven ·Greg shows a yellow card.
Rohan Ferguson was called upon to block Jordan Jenkins early on before midfielder Palmer fired into the side netting after being set up by Chris Pattison.
Ferguson parried David Fisher’s shot, while at the other end Mills reacted quickly to deny Andy Ryan’s right-footed strike.
In the second half, Frankie Hved took a corner kick at the back post, but failed to receive it. Jenkins headed the ball straight into the arms of Ferguson from close range.
Danny Amos nearly broke the deadlock with a left-footed shot that went just wide.
After Lindsay’s thunderous opener, Ryan equalized from the penalty spot with five minutes left before almost scoring a dramatic late winner when his shot sailed over the post.
Rahn had another chance later when Mills outdid himself and stole a piledriver from Joe Thomson.
In the penalty shootout, Ryan, Joe Thomson, Chris Gallagher and Thomas Cosgrove were on target for Larne, while Jenkins, Lindsay, Palmer, Wasim and Chrissy Pattison was Glentoran’s successful penalty taker.
