ADAM THE FIRST” Wins 3 Awards at MiSciFi – Africa.com
Ghana’s first science fiction film, Project Batuu: Adam’s First Man, won three awards at the prestigious Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival (MiSciFi) last night. True to its name, Adam One won Best Zero-Budget Feature Film – for demonstrating excellence despite its limited budget; and Best Afrofuturist Film – recognizing the film’s focus on African culture and futuristic themes. Innovative depictions, and the biggest one – the MiSciFi BEACON Award equivalent to the Cannes Palme d’Or, was awarded to Ghana, where the film was filmed. This marks a major achievement for the Ghanaian film industry, showcasing local talent on the international film stage and cementing Ghana’s mark on the science fiction genre.
Writer and director Majeed Sayibu, star and producer Agbeko “Bex” Mortty and actress Etornam Adgbo represented Ghana at the awards ceremony held in Miami, Florida on the 19thth The one-week MiSciFI 2025 event will end in January 2025. “We are extremely honored that ‘BATU PROJECT: ADAM THE FIRST’ has received these awards. About the movie: “Project Batuu: Adam the First” tells the story of Adam who is sent by the United African Federation to resettle on a new planet after the apocalyptic events on Earth.
