Erling Haaland: Man City charges had no bearing on signing new deal

City were charged and handed over to an independent commission in February 2023 after a four-year investigation.

Manchester City are alleged to have breached the Premier League’s financial rules between 2009 and 2018. Manchester City strongly denies all accusations.

Private hearings are held from September to December.

Norwegian forward Haaland has scored 112 goals in 127 games since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

It is understood that the clause in Haaland’s original contract, which was due to expire in 2027, has been deleted.

There are reports that a release clause has been inserted that will take effect in 2029, but this has not been confirmed by City or the player’s representatives.

Haaland’s contract is the longest in the Premier League, surpassing Cole Palmer’s nine-year deal with Chelsea last August.

“That’s a good sign indeed,” Haaland added. “Of course, it’s a little unusual, not normal, and that’s what I like.

“It felt good for both sides and ultimately it was an easy choice.”

Manchester City will face Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes in a crucial Champions League group match on Wednesday.
