England in India: Fast bowler Mark Wood back for first T20 after injury
Fast bowler Mark Wood will play for the first time since August in England’s first T20 against India in Kolkata on Wednesday.
Wood, 35, has not played since the first Test against Sri Lanka last summer when a stress fracture was discovered in his elbow, while he has been sidelined with a minor thigh problem.
The Durham man joins Jofra Archer in England’s pace attack, with Ben Duckett set to start the batting alongside Phil Salt.
This will be the first time in six years that England Test opener Duckett will tee off in a T20 match.
The five-match series against India is followed by three one-day internationals and England’s first game with Brendan McCullum as white-ball coach.
McCullum has revamped the Test squad since his appointment in 2022 and will now serve in both roles until 2027.
