Australian Open 2025 results: Novak Djokovic beats Carlos Alcaraz in Melbourne semi-finals

Novak Djokovic pulls off yet another incredible comeback to beat Carlos Alcaraz in a thriller and reach the Australian Open semi-finals.

The 37-year-old Serbian defied injury, age and ranking to defeat his 21-year-old opponent 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 in Melbourne.

Djokovic was seeking a record 11th men’s singles title when he limped away with a groin problem at the end of the first set on Rod Laver Arena.

However, after receiving treatment off the court, he made an impressive recovery and went on to win a 25th Grand Slam victory – which would be a historic record.

Djokovic played aggressively until the pain subsided, allowing him to move more freely and control the match.

Spanish third seed Alcaraz became increasingly animated as he struggled to think of how to turn an intriguing match in his favour.

Seventh seed Djokovic roared to coach Andy Murray as he sealed victory at 00:57 local time after a battle that lasted three hours and 38 minutes.

The much-anticipated match lived up to expectations, with Djokovic and Alcaraz embracing warmly in front of the net.

The loss ended Alcaraz’s hopes of becoming the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam – at least for now.

Instead, Djokovic advanced to the semifinals, where he will face German second seed Alexander Zverev on Friday.
