Sudan’s Civilians Deserve Better – Africa.com
Complexity is no excuse for the world’s continued inaction on the war in Sudan.

It is often argued that Sudan’s dire crisis has received little international attention due to its complexity, not least because “there are no good guys, only bad guys”. It is true that the crisis in Sudan is increasingly complex, as groups aiming to avoid being drawn into the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) feel the need to take up arms to defend their communities, and as countless people use weapons and Material external forces fueling the war engage in proxy competition at the expense of Sudanese civilians. But the reasons for the world’s relative indifference are manifold, including limited bandwidth to respond seriously to another international crisis and, in the case of the United States and other Western powers, limited direct influence over the warring parties. add to unfortunately lack of attention and understanding of Africa’s overall development, the result of which has been an incompetent world response to the worst humanitarian crisis of our time.
The idea that there are no good people in Sudan is also wrong. The people of Sudan, who transcended regional and socioeconomic divisions to unite to overthrow the brutal government of Omar al-Bashir, are actually the “good guys” (although it’s important to remember that Sudanese women were central to this civil movement component, the resilience of compassion that can be found in Sudan today). The main opponents in the nearly two-year conflict are both law enforcement agencies of the old dictatorship, and neither side is as reluctant to cede power to the other as they are to cede power to Sudanese civilians – despite the fall of Bashir. Later agreed to do so. The warring parties are part of an evil machine of oppression, and civilians have the courage to refuse and resist. Good people still stick to their decency; Employed Help each other in desperate situations.
American belated confirmation Genocide is happening in Sudan to help. It was both a flare to attract the urgent attention of the incoming government and a tool to shame deep-pocketed Reporters Without Borders supporters in the United Arab Emirates and elsewhere, if anyone had the courage to use it. But making such judgments about the nature of some of the worst crimes committed in Sudan may also make it easier for the uninformed to view the entire conflict as one driven by ethnic divisions, a trope that encourages some to view African conflicts as Inevitable. The world needs to understand that two things are true at the same time: the Masalit people of Darfur are victims of an evil genocidal campaign; and The overall conflict in Sudan is one in which members of the state built by Bashir are fighting for power and resources, not identity. Bad guys fight each other with no regard for civilian casualties and suffering – they are willing to starve the country if that is what is necessary to stay in power. Good people are trying to keep each other alive and the dream of a peaceful reunification of Sudan alive.
