TikTok restoring services in US after Trump pledge
President-elect Donald Trump said he would suspend TikTok service after taking office on Monday, before it would be restored to 170 million users in the United States.
On Sunday, the Chinese-owned app stopped serving U.S. users over concerns that Chinese officials could access their data.
TikTok later said in a statement that it was “restoring service” hours after the outage in the United States.
It thanked the president-elect for “providing needed clarity and reassurance” and said they would work with Trump “to develop long-term solutions that keep TikTok in the United States.”
Posting on Truth Social, a social media platform he owns, Trump said on Sunday: “I’m asking businesses not to let TikTok go into the dark! I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the time the legal ban is in effect so that we can reach an agreement to protect our national security.”
