Rangers: The two sides of ‘bulletproof’ striker Cyriel Dessers
Captain James Tavernier is another man who has had to put up with complaints from Rangers fans at times.
In a postgame interview, he praised Desers’ ability to “always rise above” the noise and said he was glad his teammate’s hard work paid off.
Former Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield, who is part of BBC Scotland’s match commentary team, echoed the sentiment.
“I think there are 25,000 people here who love him and 25,000 people who don’t love him, but he comes across as very relatable and very likeable,” Arfield said. “He seems like a good teammate.
“Any good striker doesn’t care if he misses an opportunity. They have such selfishness. He’ll go back for more and that’s what you want.”
Arfield also made an interesting comparison with a player he and Tavernier played with at Ibrox.
“I played here with Alfredo Morelos and he really didn’t care how bad he was in the game. That’s his biggest quality because he just comes back for more.
“I’m a player who may have a little bit of insecurity, but the best people don’t.
“They have this mentality of absolute invulnerability. The Dessers have that mentality too.”
