Investec Champions Cup: Ulster through to Champions Cup last 16 as Bordeaux beat Sharks
Bordeaux defeated the Sharks 66-12 and Ulster advanced to the last 16 of the Investec Champions League with a points advantage.
Richie Murphy’s side receive bonus point 52-24 win Friday night’s win over Exeter Chiefs moves them level on five points with the fourth-placed Sharks.
On Sunday, they need already-promoted Bordeaux to beat the Sharks by 29 points to have a chance of advancing with a points advantage.
The Sharks started well in France, leading by 12 points before Bordeaux led 19-12 at halftime.
Damian Penaud scored a tournament-record six tries and a superb second-half performance helped Bordeaux seal top spot in Group One and secure home advantage in the next round in April.
The Sharks’ heavy defeat meant Ulster jumped into fourth place with a -61 points difference, above the Sharks’ -87 points.
Ulster will now play away in the last 16, with the Sharks heading into the Challenge Cup.
