Dele Alli: Ex-England midfielder joins Serie A club Como on 18-month deal
Former England midfielder Dele Alli has joined Italian side Como.
The 28-year-old trained with the Serie A club last month and signed an initial 18-month contract with the option to continue for another season depending on appearances.
Dele has not played for a club since leaving Everton in June but continued training under then manager Sean Dyche before joining Como on trial.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and MK Dons player has not played senior men’s football since joining Turkish side Besiktas on loan in February 2023.
Como coach Fabregas said: “The club believes in Dele’s potential and is committed to helping him rediscover his best form.”
“His experience and leadership will undoubtedly benefit the team.”
Dele said in an emotional interview with Gary Neville in July 2023 Revealed he was sexually abused when he was six and sold drugs when he was eight. He also admitted to drinking and taking sleeping pills during his career but stressed he wanted to return to action after receiving support for his off-field issues.
“The focus will be on providing Dele with a supportive environment where he can gradually integrate into the team,” Cuomo said in a statement.
“While performance expectations will not be immediate, the club is confident he will make a significant contribution both on the pitch and as a mentor to the club’s young talent”.
Last summer, Como returned to Italy’s top flight for the first time in nearly 50 years.
Former Arsenal players Cesc Fabregas and Thierry Henry are also minority investors in the club.
