Cardiff’s win over Swansea for grieving Omer Riza – Tom Ramasut

Cardiff City recorded just their fifth win in 14 derbies with a sound defeat of Swansea City, with Callum Robinson scoring two second-half goals and Dimitrios Guettas scoring Scored the third goal.

More importantly than delivering a decisive blow to their arch-rivals, the Bluebirds’ win boosted their chances of avoiding relegation in the Championship and lifted them to 20th in the table.

After the final whistle, almost all Cardiff City and Swansea players and staff were involved in a massive melee.

Ramasut said: “This game is full of huge emotions for both cities and both clubs. That’s understandable and that’s why it’s a fixture.”

“We want to see enthusiasm from the players and the fans – that’s what we want to see. We have to be careful not to cross the line.

“Omar may have felt that some players may have done that and they may not have been disrespectful, it may have just triggered and exploded some emotions at the end.

“I know those players are standing up for their manager and that’s what you end up seeing.

“I think (Swansea players) know the manager’s situation. Then, whatever you say, you have to be mindful of that.

“If that was the trigger, I’m not 100 percent sure, but something might be said. We want it to be passionate and emotional, that’s it, but always done with an element of respect.”

Asked to clarify whether the alleged disrespectful behavior by Swansea players was related to Riza’s father, Ramasut said: “No. That’s not what I said at all.”

“What I’m trying to say is that the collision did happen but there could have been other things in the heat of the moment – that’s the normal thing you expect in a derby. But you also have to respect someone’s situation, in the heat of the moment my eyes.”
