Antony: Real Betis lead chase for Manchester United winger
La Liga side Real Betis are chasing Manchester United winger Anthony on loan for the remainder of the season.
The Brazilian has failed to justify his status as United’s second most expensive player in history.
Anthony spent £81.3m Manchester United signed him in August 2022. He has since scored 12 goals, three of which came in his first three Premier League games.
The 24-year-old has scored one Premier League goal since April 2023 but his opportunities in the first team have dwindled – from 23 league starts in his first year to 15 last season. Not this season.
Anthony has only played in 13 of Manchester United’s 32 games this season.
Against Southampton on Thursday, he failed to capitalize on a great chance when receiving Alejandro Garnacho’s cross – and despite having an open goal to target, he managed to convert the ball Pass back to goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
A number of clubs have inquired about Anthony’s situation and United realize they will have to subsidize his wages.
Negotiations are currently progressing best with Betis, who are 11th in La Liga and face Belgian side Gent in the league play-offs next month, with the club hoping to reach a deal but nothing has been agreed yet.
