Dubai Desert Classic: Tyrrell Hatton one off lead despite smashing tee marker
England’s Tyrrell Hatton was questioned by officials after he smashed a tee mark in frustration on the seventh hole after his third round at the Dubai Desert Classic.
The three-time Ryder Cup player bogeyed the eighth and ninth holes but regained his composure on the back nine for a four-under 68 for a 12-under total — One shot ahead of New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier.
Hatton said it was a frustrating day for Emirates Golf Club.
“Yeah, I probably shouldn’t have done it,” he told BBC Sport. “Does that make me a bad person? No. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing. It happened. I can’t go back and change it, so I just have to move on.
“I was happy with how I played the back nine and if I had missed some putts I could have easily made a few better shots. But I was in a good position going into the final round.
“Tomorrow is another round of golf and I should be experienced enough to play it. I’m in a good position to give myself a chance to win it.
“Hopefully I’ll be more patient when I need to be.”
