Renee Slegers: Arsenal name permanent head coach after impressive interim spell from former Netherlands midfielder

Former Netherlands international Slagers joined Arsenal in September 2023 as Edvard’s assistant coach.

The pair reunited after working together at Swedish side Rosengård before Slegers took over from Advall at the club in June 2021 and guided them to back-to-back championships.

Prior to joining RosengÃ¥rd, Slegers was in charge of Limhamn Bunkeflo in Malmö, initially coaching the team’s under-19s before being hired as head coach of Sweden’s under-23s.

Slegers was born in the small town of Someren-Eind in the south of the Netherlands and played for the local team SSE.

At 17, she spent time in Arsenal’s academy before returning to her native Netherlands to begin her senior career with Willem II.

Slagers played for Willem from 2007 until their disbandment in 2011, making his debut for the Netherlands against Russia in March 2009.

She reached the semi-finals of Euro 2009 with the Netherlands and went on to make 55 appearances for her country, scoring 15 goals.

Slagers subsequently played for Swedish teams Djurgardens and Linkoping until a serious knee injury ended her career in 2018.
