Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan, President of the Republic of Seychelles, is currently leading the Seychelles delegation to the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), one of the world’s premier platforms for advancing sustainable development and global climate action.

At the summit, President Ramkalavan, together with other heads of state and government, delivered a keynote statement at a high-level dialogue themed “Leveraging the Blue Economy and Ocean Conservation for a Sustainable Energy Transition.”

The dialogue brings together global leaders, policymakers and experts to discuss the critical role of the blue economy and ocean ecosystems in driving sustainable and renewable energy solutions.

In his speech, President Ramkalavan emphasized Seychelles’ unwavering commitment to advancing ocean protection, promoting the sustainable use of marine resources, and integrating these efforts into a just and equitable energy transition. He highlighted Seychelles’ achievements in marine protected areas, innovative blue finance mechanisms such as the world’s first sovereign blue bond, and initiatives aimed at reducing the country’s dependence on fossil fuels through the adoption of renewable energy. measures.

“Small island developing states like the Seychelles are on the frontline of climate change, but we are also pioneering solutions that demonstrate the huge potential of the blue economy to contribute to a sustainable and resilient future. By harnessing the power of the ocean responsibly, we can accelerate the global transition to renewable energy while protecting marine biodiversity for generations to come,” said President Ramkalavan.

The President also called for greater international cooperation, capacity building and investment to enable countries to sustainably use their ocean resources to address global energy challenges.

“Our aspirations for a sustainable and inclusive blue economy are not just for ourselves, but for future generations and a healthier planet.
