Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Besiktas in talks with former Man Utd boss over head coach role
Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in talks to become Besiktas’ new manager.
If the 51-year-old Norwegian is appointed, it will be his first managerial role since taking over. Was fired by Manchester United in 2021.
Besiktas, who are sixth in the Turkish Super League, parted ways with Dutchman Giovanni van Bronckhorst last November.
“Our company has begun negotiations with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the position of Technical Director of Football A,” the club said in a statement.
This is the head coaching position that Van Bronckhorst previously held.
Former striker Solskjaer temporarily succeeded Mourinho as Manchester United coach in December 2018 and signed a three-year contract in March 2019.
During his time in charge, he guided the Red Devils to a second-place finish in the Premier League and a Europa League final, but was sacked due to poor performances and left the club without winning a trophy.
Before being appointed by Manchester United, Solskjaer coached Molde twice and Cardiff City once.
As a player, he scored 126 goals in 11 seasons for Manchester United from 1996 to 2007, including the winner in the 1999 Champions League final.
