The league announced Friday that the Dolphins will be the “designated” or nominal home team for the 2025 games at soccer powerhouse Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The Colts were announced as the designated team for the game in Berlin on Wednesday, with the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns set to be home to the league’s three games in London.
The Madrid game will be the first regular-season game in Spain after the NFL expanded its international footprint to Mexico, Germany and Brazil in recent years. In 2007, the NFL launched the “International Series” with a game between the Dolphins and the New York Giants in London.
Opponents and official dates for international fixtures will be announced later this year along with the full 2025 season schedule. Starting in 2025, the NFL can schedule up to eight regular-season games internationally.
Other major North American sports leagues have also expanded their global reach in recent years, with Major League Baseball (MLB) playing games in South Korea, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the Dominican Republic last season.
