London Marathon 2025: Eliud Kipchoge to chase fifth victory
Kipchoge Be the first runner to run a marathon in under two hours October 2019.
However, that time was not recognized as an official world record because it was not a public event and he used a rotating set of pacers.
His official personal best is 2 hours, 1 minute and 9 seconds, which is the second fastest time in history.
In addition to his victories at the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Kipchoge has 11 victories in the world’s major marathons.
These include four consecutive unbeaten runs in London in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019.
His last appearance was in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, when he finished eighth.
It was his only loss in 16 marathons between 2014 and 2022.
When asked when he might choose to retire, Kipchoge said he would only reveal his future plans after the London game.
Brasher described Kipchoge as “the greatest marathon runner of this or any other era.
“You could make a compelling case that his incredible dominance in the marathon makes him the greatest athlete we’ve ever seen,” Brasher added.
