Warren Gatland questioning Wales review feedback was ‘poor’ – Ellis Jenkins
Former Wales flanker Ellis Jenkins believes Warren Gatland’s decision to question the lack of winning experience of many in Welsh rugby’s recent independent review was “terrible”.
The Wales Rugby Union (WRU) has conducted a post-autumn nations series review to improve all aspects of the country’s game following 12 consecutive Test defeats.
But when it comes to looking back when the 2025 Six Nations squad is announced, Gatland said: “I sometimes ask players who provide feedback and other information, what has been their experience in a professional winning environment?”
The Wales manager added: “Even those who are conducting the review or involved in the process, these are the questions I ask myself. What level of experience or involvement do they have in a winning environment in high-level professional sport?”
Former Wales back row Jenkins believes Gatland was wrong to question the validity of some of the feedback given during the review process.
“I was really surprised by his answer,” Jenkins said Scrum V: Warm up.
“To question the validity of players and their feedback just because they are not involved in an international winning environment is, in my opinion, terrible.
“If you’re going to do a review, you don’t have to act on all feedback, but you do at least consider it.
“Just because they haven’t played a winning game, and indeed not many of Wales’ players have played successful international matches over the past few years, that doesn’t mean their feedback is invalid.
“The way it was worded and the way it questioned the entire process and the people involved didn’t sit well with me at all.”
