Troy Deeney’s Team of the Week: Sels, Robinson, Amad, Foden

Reece James (Chelsea): I will be gentle and emotional with this person. Yes, I know he came on as a substitute against Bournemouth and he scored a great free-kick but it ended up being a draw. However, it’s been about 500 days since we’ve seen him play a decent game. He was a world-class player at the time but unfortunately injuries plagued him.

Marc Gueye (Crystal Palace) and Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa): Both have long been outstanding defenders. Both are at different stages of life. Geshe always seemed linked to one team and was still trying to become captain, but he handled it like a true pro and did his job. As his form improved, it was no coincidence that Palace were winning more and more games to escape the relegation zone.

Konsa was never the guy you talked about at Aston Villa. A few years ago it was Tyrone Mings, then Diego Carlos, but he is Mr. Consistency. He can play at centre-back or right-back, he’s a solid professional, a very good player and he probably deserves more attention in the England squad despite injuries – and he’s Thomas ·Tuchel will help him get opportunities after taking over.

Anthony Robinson (Fulham): Arguably the best left-back in the Premier League this season. Fulham were outstanding again with two assists against West Ham United. Just a real predator, solid defender. I think there’s more to come and I think if he gets the end product and more consistency, they’re going to have a hard time keeping him. He would go on to bigger and better things.
