Nintendo’s (NTDOYThe highly anticipated successor to the Switch console will be released sometime in 2025, according to a sneak peek trailer released by the company on Thursday.
In addition to its own exclusive games, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to play physical and digital copies of original Switch games, the company said in a press release. However, it admits “Some Nintendo Switch games may not be supported.”
The company says more details about the console will be revealed at a Nintendo Direct event on April 2.
Nintendo Switch 2 launches amid high demand for its predecessor fall. In November, Nintendo cut the number of Switches it expected to sell in the fiscal year ending in March 2025 from 13.5 million units to 12.5 million units. The company also lowered its forecast for full-year sales and operating profit.
Nintendo’s U.S.-listed shares rose about 2% on Thursday and have gained 14% in the past year.
