LA wildfires: Genesis Invitational to move location because of fires, PGA Tour says

The PGA Tour announced that the Genesis Invitational will be played at a different location next month due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.

The tournament, presented by the Tiger Woods Foundation, will be held from February 13-16 and is scheduled to be held at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.

However, the area suffered the most destructive fires in Los Angeles history, burning more than 23,000 acres and destroying communities.

Organizers have yet to confirm the new venue but say they will provide further updates in the coming days.

The Genesis Invitational is one of eight signature events on the PGA Tour in 2025, with a purse of $20 million (£16.3 million).

“The focus remains the safety and well-being of those in the greater Los Angeles area affected by unprecedented natural disasters,” the PGA Tour said in a statement announcing the move.

“We are grateful for the life-saving efforts of first responders and their tireless efforts to end tragic wildfires,” it added.

Riviera Country Club is the longtime home of the Genesis Invitational (formerly known as the Los Angeles Open) and will also host the men’s and women’s championships at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Tiger Woods said safety and the well-being of those affected was the top priority for event organizers.

“We’re not really focused on the tournament at the moment,” the 15-time Grand Slam champion said.

“It’s more about what we can do to help everyone who is struggling, losing their home and changing their life.”
