Every Tesla Cybertruck Recall Since the Vehicle Was Released

this Tesla Cybertruck will hit the road in December 2023and since then it has been everywhere from city streets to Fortnite and Rocket League. But the road isn’t always smooth for the sharp-angled Cybertruck. Tesla has issued seven recalls of its stainless steel pickup trucks so far.

Tesla sits on top of list The total number of recalled vehicles in 2024 is 5.1 million, compared with 4.3 million for Ford, which ranks second. The futuristic Cybertruck is one of Tesla’s most expensive vehicles, with prices ranging from $80,000 to $102,000, depending on trim. The price will likely go up even more, too, based on added features like full self-driving mode, which will cost $8,000 (despite its name, it’s not full self-driving).

Although Tesla has yet to release any official sales figures, Forbes estimate As of October 2024, 28,250 Cybertrucks have been sold. Tesla did not respond to a request for comment.

Here are every recall issued so far for the Tesla Cybertruck, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

Warning light font size is incorrect

Recall date: January 30, 2024
Affected vehicles: 2,193,869
Element: Electrical system

This doesn’t just apply to the Tesla Cybertruck. Affected vehicles include the 2012-23 Tesla Model S, the 2016-24 Model X, the 2017-23 Model Y and the 2024 Cybertruck. NHTSA found that the font size for brake, parking and ABS warnings on the dashboard was too small, making it difficult for drivers to read.

To fix the problem, Tesla has released a free over-the-air update that saves owners from having to take their Tesla to a dealer for an official fix.

Stuck pedal causing unintentional acceleration

Recall date: April 17, 2024
Affected vehicles: 3,878
Element: vehicle speed control

This is definitely the most significant Cybertruck recall, affecting Cybertrucks produced between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024. NHTSA said in a report The accelerator pedal on some Tesla Cybertrucks may shift out of place and get caught in the interior trim, causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably. The driver can stop unintentional acceleration by pressing the brake pedal, cutting power to the vehicle’s electric motor.

Tesla owners must bring their Cybertruck to a dealership, where technicians will repair or replace the accelerator pedal assembly for free. According to the NHTSA reportThe problem was caused by the accidental introduction of residual lubricant during the manufacturing process, causing the pads to detach from the pedal assembly and thus become stuck. Once secured, there is no longer a risk of the pedal becoming stuck.

Front windshield wipers may fail

Recall date: June 19, 2024
Affected vehicles: 11,688
Element: visibility

According to Tesla and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, excessive current is occasionally transmitted through the faulty component to the front windshield wiper motor controller. Current is too large will eventually lead to motor failure. Once the motor burns out, the front windshield wipers will not work until repaired.

The issue affects Tesla Cybertrucks produced between November 13, 2023, and June 6, 2024, a total of 11,688 units. To resolve this issue, owners are encouraged to take their Tesla to a dealer, where the wiper motor can be replaced with one that does not have a defective component.

Trunk bed trim may fall off if not properly glued

Recall date: June 19, 2024
Affected vehicles: 12,150
Element: structure

The recall occurred on the same day as the windshield wiper issue. Tesla says a decorative decal on the truck, known as a “sail decal,” was installed incorrectly on some Cybertrucks. These decals are attached to the frame of the truck using adhesive, which does not install properly on some models. The result is that trim pieces can become loose or even fall off over time, causing a road hazard to other drivers.

Cybertruck owners are asked to bring their trucks to dealers to have the issue resolved. Repairs include replacing any missing trim pieces, using an adhesion promoter to strengthen existing bonds, and using pressure-sensitive tape to secure the trim pieces. The affected trucks were produced between November 13, 2023 and May 26, 2024.

Rear view camera image may not be displayed

Recall date: September 26, 2024
Affected vehicles: 27,185
Element: backsliding prevention

Federal motor vehicle safety standards require rearview cameras to display an image within 2 seconds of a vehicle being reversed. In some cases, vehicle systems may not complete the shutdown process before they are expected to start up again. This causes a delay that causes the rearview camera to display nothing for longer than 2 seconds, which is against federal regulations.

Just like the recall for incorrect font sizes, Tesla was able to fix the issue with a free over-the-air update, saving owners from having to return to the dealer for a fix. The affected Cybertrucks include vehicles produced between November 13, 2023, and September 14, 2024.

Inverter failure may result in loss of drive power

Recall date: November 5, 2024
Affected vehicles: 2,431
Element: Electrical system

This is Tesla’s second recall affecting the Cybertruck’s electrical system. This is caused by defective metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (also known as MOSFETs, commonly found in modern vehicles). A few Cybertrucks have faulty versions of these transistors in their drive inverters, which can cause the inverter to malfunction. The failure caused the truck to stop producing torque and thus stop moving. The NHTSA investigation noted that there were no warning signs before the failure, so the shutdown could have occurred at any time.

The fix requires Tesla Cybertruck owners to visit a dealer to replace the inverter for free. This recall is fairly new, so Tesla hasn’t officially notified owners yet. The notice of ownership date is scheduled for the first week of January 2025. The affected trucks were manufactured between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024.

Tire pressure warning light problem

Recall date: December 17, 2024
Affected vehicles: 694,304
Element: tire

Tesla is remember Nearly 700,000 cars across 16 different models are affected due to a problem with the tire pressure monitoring system. This recall affects 2024 Cybertruck, 2017-2025 Model 3 and 2020-2025 Model Y vehicles. according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Warning lights that monitor tire pressure may not stay on, meaning drivers may not know their tire pressure is too low. This increases the risk of a crash. Tesla is releasing a free over-the-air software update to help resolve the issue. Starting in mid-February 2025, owners of affected cars will receive notification letters in the mail.
