But six months after the incident, KIO president Okafor has written to Infantino and CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domingos.
“On behalf of many in the football community involved in this case, we would be grateful if you could let us know whether an investigation is ongoing and when you plan to have results,” Okafor wrote in the letter.
“Several players were filmed singing a song in front of the team’s coach, which was both racist towards French players and transphobic. Midfielder Enzo Fernandez could clearly be seen singing, although we Recognize that he is not the only one doing this as many players can be heard in the video.
“Chelsea stated that Fernandes will take part in educational activities to learn from his mistakes. However, it is important to note how this incident and its handling will impact the wider community in England and globally.”
Okafor said if there is no investigation, “it shows a lack of transparency and accountability, especially given the widespread publicity of this incident. All federations and football organizations must uphold consistent standards through accountability and education.” to deal with discrimination.”
“As Mr Infantino outlined in May 2024, the federations have signaled their intention to take a global stance against racism, so we must present a united front to tackle discrimination. Otherwise, the federations’ claims that action is being taken will fail at the first obstacle.”
The BBC understands that the FA has also sought clarification from CONMEBOL but has yet to receive a response.
KIO and Chelsea declined to comment.
