Ange Postecoglou on ‘thin ice’ at Tottenham after ‘unacceptable’ loss
Postkoglu defiantly claimed after Tottenham lost to Arsenal in September’s first north London derby of the season He ‘always wins trophies’ In his second season.
The comments were meant to allay fans’ fears of a trophy-less season, but as Postkoglu himself said, they have become accustomed to laughing at him after poor results.
Tottenham have a real shot at silverware in the Europa League and hold a 1-0 first-leg lead over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
But Postkoglu knew results had to improve quickly.
He added: “Of course it hurts me to lose. It’s unacceptable. There have been too many defeats this year. Too many games have been taken away from us.”
“It needs to stop.”
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown feels the pressure is mounting on Postkoglu and says his style of play can sometimes come at a high cost as the team continue to play high-pressure games.
“Tottenham took a lot of risks and Arsenal took advantage – the game was so open,” Keown told TNT Sports.
“Manchester United could overtake Tottenham. It’s a difficult moment for them and the manager is walking on thin ice.”
Former Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon added: “One win in nine – that’s not good enough at all.
“It creates a lot of uneasiness in the Tottenham camp. If they don’t get to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, there will be big problems.”
Son Heung-min said the players also need to stand up and accept statistics.
“It also depends on the player,” said the striker. You have to listen to what we want to do. I think we are not disciplined enough.
“We have to do better in every aspect. When you look at the table, it’s not good enough.”
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand criticized Tottenham Hotspur’s defense, saying: “It’s like watching an Under-18s game and the kids are figuring things out on their own.
