Women’s world record holder Ruth Chepngetich will run the London Marathon on April 27.
Kenyan, 30, runs fastest time in history for a female athlete at Chicago Marathon Octoberwhich took 2 hours, 9 minutes and 57 seconds.
Chepngetich’s feat allowed her to surpass Ethiopian Tigst Assefa’s previous record by nearly two minutes and become the first woman to run a marathon in under 2 hours and 10 minutes.
“The London Marathon always brings together the best athletes in the world,” Czepjtic said.
“I didn’t know (setting a world record in Chicago) was possible, but I started to realize that dreams can come true.”
Chepngetich will join from London Authors: Dutch Olympic champion Sifan Hassan and compatriot Peres JepchirchirHolds the women’s marathon world record.
Perez set a time of 2 hours, 16 minutes and 16 seconds in London last year, and unlike the Chicago Marathon, the women ran with the men rather than competing alone.
“Myself, Perez and the other women are very strong, so it will be a competition,” Cepentic added.
“I want to prepare as well as I can and we’ll see if we can lower Perez’s world record. With strength, I think we can support each other and maybe the world record will be broken.”
