Jurgen Klopp: Ex-Liverpool manager will not coach Red Bull teams in new role

Klopp coached Mainz and Borussia Dortmund in his native Germany before joining Liverpool in 2016.

He became an Anfield hero, winning the 2019 Champions League and the 2020 Premier League, as well as the Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, Super Cup and Community Shield.

Amid links to Liverpool, Klopp inquired about the future of Mohamed Salah, whose contract with the Premier League leaders expires at the end of the season.

“I hope he stays,” Klopp said. “He is the greatest striker of the modern era, a fantastic player and a fantastic person.

“He’s a great athlete in every aspect, so I hope he stays at Liverpool.”

Unlike at Liverpool, Klopp will not be involved in day-to-day coaching in his new job, but will act as an advisor to Red Bull’s clubs in Germany, the United States, Brazil, Japan and Austria, while also supporting the organization’s global scouting operations.

He will also contribute to the training and development of coaches and said he wants to be a valuable asset rather than a token big name.

“It’s pretty much what I wanted to do. I ended up at Liverpool seven months ago. I did it consciously,” he said.

“After a few months, the opportunity came. I didn’t want to be a passenger or the prominent figure in the room. I really wanted to give it some value.

“I don’t want to do this (become a head coach) again. I want a fresh start and this is an opportunity. Add value. What it’s going to look like, we’ll see. There’s no one plan that fits all teams.

“We want to be the best. In every department, every club.”
