Today, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Ayman Ashour, and Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Ah Mr. Abdul Latif.

Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawi said the meeting was part of the President’s follow-up on several issues overseen by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Education and Technical Education.

The two ministers reviewed the coordination of the bachelor’s degree system.

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research reviewed the growth in the number of students enrolled in Egyptian universities in the fields of artificial intelligence, digitalization, computer science and technology in the 2024/2025 academic year. Compared with the 2023/2024 academic year, the number of students in these fields has increased by 40%.

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research also discussed the establishment of the Egyptian Academy of Mathematical Sciences to attract outstanding students.

President Sisi directed that these majors be prioritized due to their demand in the job market and their connection to technological progress, which is considered a key driver of progress for any country.

As part of the internationalization and export of Egyptian education, Egypt has reached an agreement to open branches of Egyptian universities abroad in partnership with the private sector at no cost to the state, the Minister of Higher Education said. He added that by the 2025/2026 academic year, the Egyptian higher education system will introduce 10 new national universities, bringing the total number of Egyptian national universities to 30.

He pointed out that Egypt currently has 116 universities (public, private, state, technical and foreign), including 1,079 colleges.

President Sisi stressed that Egyptian university branches, including national university branches, should be equipped according to international standards and attract foreign students, stressing that faculties should include scientific and practical majors related to technology, artificial intelligence, digitalization and engineering.

The meeting also discussed the implementation measures for coordinated acceptance by colleges and universities in the 2024/2025 academic year. This includes student numbers and their distribution among universities (whether public, state, private or foreign) and technical and technical colleges.

The meeting discussed efforts to increase the number of international students at Egyptian universities. The President directed that efforts continue to transform Egypt into an attractive destination for outstanding higher education and international students.

President Sisi stressed the need to focus on transforming scientific research results into products of economic value to contribute to supporting the national economy. The President affirmed the importance of strengthening innovation and entrepreneurship and integrating scientific research with development plans and social needs. In addition to this, the shortage of academic skills and the prevention of brain drain can be addressed, thus enhancing Egypt’s position as a leading destination in the field of education.
