Dubois vs Parker: Tyson Fury overshadows Daniel Dubois-Joseph Parker news conference

Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker make sideshows at their own press conference after heavyweights Tyson Fury announces retirement for second time early Monday.

British player Dubois will defend his IBF world title against New Zealander Parker in Saudi Arabia on February 22. The main event will be between light heavyweight opponents Artur Beterbiev and Demi Rematch between Dmitry Bivol.

The heavyweight duo do their best to promote their fights and are one of the most talented cards in recent years, but are constantly asked to answer questions about former world champion Fury.

“If Tyson is ready to retire, then he should hang up the gloves and enjoy his life. He has achieved what he has achieved and he is content,” Parker said of his friend and sparring partner.

Speaking to BBC Sport in London, Dubois questioned whether Fury – who announced his retirement in April 2022 but returned six months later – would continue to retire.

“He might come back. You never know with Fury. He’s a legend no matter what,” the 27-year-old said.

While Dubois and Parker had at times awkward exchanges at the top table, attention turned to next month’s card.

Parker, 33, questioned why Dubois took to the ring to call out fellow champion Alexander Usyk after beating Fury in December.

“It’s all about making noise. That’s show business. That’s what I want next. First I want to get past this guy,” DuBois responded, promising a “teardown job” on Parker.
