Celtic: Kyogo speculation does not worry Brendan Rodgers
Manager Brendan Rodgers will not stop any players looking to leave Celtic but says striker Keigo Furuhashi is not affected by January transfer rumors.
The Japanese striker has been linked with a move to Atlanta United Major League Soccer apologizes to Celtic Last week, its website mistakenly posted a report saying the deal had been completed.
Celtic travel to Dundee on Tuesday looking to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table to 18 points before Rangers face Aberdeen on Wednesday.
Keigo scored twice in the game Saturday’s 4-1 win over Ross County Although the 29-year-old celebrated both wins in a low-key manner, Rodgers didn’t think it meant anything.
“People always look into things,” the Northern Irishman said. “He didn’t celebrate enough, or he didn’t do this, or he didn’t do that.
“I see him every day, I see his work, I see his intensity. Maybe he scores so many points that he doesn’t feel like he has to celebrate like crazy all the time. Or maybe he’s too aloof.
“He’s still the same guy. (There’s always) speculation and we’re not afraid of speculation and gossip. He’s fine and he’s going to Dundee.”
Rodgers says it would be prudent for Celtic to have contingency plans in place for any offers for first-team players during the January transfer window.
“There are all these ‘what if’ scenarios that you have to be prepared for,” he added.
“If a player doesn’t want to be here, then leave. At that point the club has to come to the best deal possible. I don’t see the point in keeping someone who doesn’t want to be here.”
“We’ll be prepared for all eventualities, whether it’s injuries or transfers. You have to be ready at all times.”
“But for him he’s happy, he’s working well, scoring goals and enjoying his football.”
